In fact, my VERY first attempt at getting lean ended up with me being almost 10lbs OVER the weight I had started! (I kid you not)

And the funny thing is - I actually did everything right. (I measured my protein intake, I worked out 5 days a week in the gym, learned everything I could about nutrition and the body.)

One tiny (but really huge) mistake…

But one tiny mistake on my end that nobody warned me about (Really? I’m supposed to eat less calories than I burn off?) sunk the whole thing faster than you can say Titanic, in less than a month.

And I know that my own epic fail may sound..

well...

uncommon and unlikely.

But if you’ve ever attempted a weight loss and gym program yourself and tried to make it into a vegan program (or listened closely to the struggles of your peers), then you’ll know that this kind of horror story isn’t so far off from the typical weight loss experience.

Here’s how most “get lean” programs go down…

First, you sign up to a gym and hire a personal trainer (and just any trainer because surely they’re all good, right?)

Or…if you can’t afford a gym, you buy some dumbbells and resistance bands and maybe one of those ab machines that you saw advertised on the late night shopping channel, and wait for the “magic” to unfold.

And maybe you actually DO start to see some results.  Something you feel good about.

So you go to work on changing your diet.  Meal times turn from being pleasurable to anxiety ridden as you spend hours wondering what you should be eating, choosing to stick with mostly fruit because surely fruit can’t make you fat (wrong!) or sitting down to a plate of lettuce leaves and celery while the rest of the family tucks into your hearty, homemade dinner.

But even as you eat it, you can already feel how wrong it all seems.  You’re starving most of the time, and also miserable.

You worry about the balance.

Am I working out too little? Eating too much? How quickly should I be seeing results?

But you’re a strong, independent person and you’ve already spent hundreds on new workout clothes, home exercise equipment and DVDs that you don’t really even know how to use yet.  So you plunge on with a “I will not let this beat me” attitude.

“I’m just food deprived and tired…I’ll feel better once I see the weight beginning to drop off” (you tell yourself)

Sure…if that even begins to happen.

Next, it’s time to wake up at 5am (cause fit people work out at this time don’t they?) and squeeze into that expensive workout gear.

But “it’s all good” you say…“The investment will be worth it in the end”

  So you take stock of it all – dumbbells, yoga mats, resistance bands, complicated machines, barbells, swiss balls…

And push through a few sets – stopping to watch a few YouTube tutorials and “how to” workouts, realising half way through that you’ve spent 45 minutes trying to decide on the best workout in YouTube and now only have 15 minutes left to actually exercise.

And let’s say you get lucky…maybe there’s a “fit friend” you can call who gives you some direction and tells you the name of a celebrity trainer who has free online workout videos.  So you commit to doing these instead every day.

Phew. That was close 😉

Then the one week later you decide it’s time to step on the scales…

You have resisted stepping on the scales up until now (well, apart from those sneaky couple of times mid week, but they didn’t count because it takes at least a week to see real changes, right?)

You’re feeling good.  You’ve gotten up early every day and squeezed in as much of a workout as you can.

You’ve been starving and irritable most of the week, but that’s okay because you know that the results are going to be worth it.

Minutes before you step on the scales you remove every single last item of clothing, jewellery and even your hair band because you know that every last ounce counts.  You silently curse yourself for having long hair because it must weigh at least a pound, right?

So you take a deep breath and do it.

You close your eyes and wait for the dial to settle.

Then you glance down.

There’s no change.

You’re exactly the same weight.  Or worse, maybe you’re a pound or two heavier.

How can this be?

Maybe your weight distribution is wrong, so you try to stand on your tip toes.  Nothing.

So you try standing on one leg.  Nada.

You suck in your stomach and draw yourself up to your full height.  Nein.

“How can this be?” you inwardly wail

You did everything the “so called” experts told you to do.You exercised more and you ate WAY less than is healthy or normal for a person your size.

How can your weight remain the same?

You’re worried…

But the show must go on, so you dress (in your clothes that are still two sizes larger than you know you’re mean to be) and make your way to the kitchen for breakfast.

You’re so depressed that you just want to eat your body weight in chocolate.  Or cake.  In fact you’d eat anything right now other than that depressing half a grapefruit.

The devil that resides on your shoulder starts whispering in your ear…

“Just give yourself the morning off… you deserve it!  Have a chocolate croissant.  Just one won’t hurt”

But once again, you push through and eat your half a grapefruit and treat yourself to a black coffee.

Then at work someone delivers pastries from the local bakery.

Your stomach rumbles and your head pounds.

You’re starving.

So you reach for one…

... just a bite won’t hurt

... And it tastes so good.

So you quickly demolish the whole thing in one bite (cause everyone knows you’re on a diet and they might call you out on it)

And the cycle of self-loathing begins once more.

Close the curtain.

Exit stage.

You curse the celebrity gym program that you bought that covered only one piece or a large, intricate puzzle… and decide that you were never meant to be thin.

You’re naturally big boned and genetically cursed.

You pat yourself on the back, slink back to your old ways and learn to live with those skinny bitches who parade around in their size 8 jeans, taunting you with their flat stomachs and thigh gaps. (not that you’re spiteful or anything…)

Yet despite all these horror stories,
you STILL hang on to the idea of “someday” being lean.

Because despite EVERYTHING that can (and usually does) go wrong with a fitness program… There is still NOTHING more powerful, leveragable or exponentially more effective for your life and your body, than a well executed nutrition and workout plan.

Most people needed a system that was as simple as it was effective. One that got results fast enough to keep them motivated, but not so fast that they reached burn out.

So I held off.

Now I’ve always been a very impulsive person. When I get an idea in my mind I am all systems go and guns a blazing until I can get it to fruition.

But when it came to creating and developing a system that would work for everyone, to give them better than average results… I wasn’t willing to mess around.

I wouldn’t rest until I was SURE you would get the same results as me

4 Common Vegan Myths That Keep You From Creating Your Perfect Body

MYTH #1: IT’S SIMPLY NOT POSSIBLE TO GET ENOUGH PROTEIN FROM A VEGAN DIET

Wrong wrong wrong on so many levels. 

Okay I’ll admit, if you were entering the heavyweight category of a bodybuilding championship, you may struggle to eat 300g of lean protein per day (although it has been done!).  But for most people, all they want is to have a lovely, lean, toned body.

Most diets are made up of no more than 25-30% protein which is easily achievable through a vegan diet.  In fact, most vegans who are conscious of their protein intake actually have a far more wide and varied diet than typical carnivores.

MYTH #2: WITHOUT MEAT YOU WON’T GET THE RIGHT BALANCE OF NUTRITION OR AMINO ACIDS

This one myth drives me just a little bit insane cause it’s such a common misconception.

There are 13 “essential” amino acids that they body must obtain from food as it cannot make them itself.  It’s true that meat contains all 13 of these amino acids.  But so does quinoa and tofu!

And even if you detest quinoa and tofu turns your stomach, you can easily get the amino acid nutritional balance from eating a wide variety of grains, vegetables, legumes and nuts.  And in my personal opinion, getting these from a wide variety of sources means that you’re also getting all those other nutrients that AREN’T found in meat or animal flesh.  Jus’ sayin.

MYTH #3: VEGANS ARE USUALLY SKINNY AND WEAK

It’s true that many vegans are skinny and weak.  But then again, so are many carnivores.  Being skinny and weak does not come from the type of diet you eat, it comes from the kind of nutrition you give your body and how many calories you take in.

I can easily squat over 100kg in weight, which is heavier than many meat-eating men that lift in the gym.  And a piece of animal flesh has not passed my lips in over 12 years.

Eating a nutritionally balanced diet that supports you lifting weights and burning fat is what makes you strong, toned and lean.  And in my experience, most vegans experience incredible body composition changes far faster than carnivores.

MYTH #4: TO ACHIEVE THE BODY I WANT I NEED TO WORK OUT IN THE GYM 7 DAYS PER WEEK

People who workout regularly and have bodies that you envy, know that working out in the gym seven days per week actually works against what you are trying to achieve.

There is a point where your body reaches over training and it will start to break down your hard earned muscle, instead of utilising fat stores. 

To prevent this from happening, it’s important that you give your body adequate rest after strength and cardio training.  Do this, and you’ll be raring to get back to your program, which should take no longer than 5 hours a week in total.

Q. Do you really answer questions and give personal coaching on your site? How do you find the time?

Q: Do I have to take any supplements?

A: No you don’t have to, but there are some that we recommend that are entirely optional. However, no supplement will every make up for bad diet or lack of training. You don’t need any supplements to burn fat or build muscle.  esBut if you’re doing the program with gusto, then a few supplements can accelerate your progress and we advise on these with care.

Q: Do I have to join a gym or buy any equipment?

A: Yes, this is a gym based program.  You DO need some kind of resistance training because that’s the key to revving up your metabolism, sculpting lean muscle and keeping the muscle you already have.

Q: I don’t want to bulk up - will this program still work for me?

A: Yes. The program was developed BY a physique competitor, but it’s not just FOR competitors. Think of it this way: Bodybuilders are the leanest, most muscular people in the world, so if you want to get leaner or more muscular, who better to learn from? I designed the program so you can use fitness model techniques to reach your own personal goals, whether that’s building muscle or just toning up, losing 100 pounds or the last 10 pounds, getting ripped or just getting leaner than you are now.

Q: Does the program work for men as well as women?

A: In short, yes.  Women have different needs and the program gives you the exact method to work out your individual calories, macros and training needs.  However, the workout programs work equally well for men and women, as you choose your own weights and resistance.  Remember, women need muscle too!  Muscle give you a curvy, lean shape that most women want but don’t realise comes from muscle tone and not natural shape. Q: I just turned 59. Am I too old to start this program? Please be honest.

A: Honestly, you’re too old NOT to start this program. The science shows that college-age kids don’t have to worry about hormone levels and muscle loss – getting in shape is easy for them. A: Yes. Gluten intolerance is common and you can easily work around it. The food choices are flexible and substitutions are easy.

Q: I'm lactose intolerant. Can I still do the Sculpted Vegan nutrition program?

A: Yes. Dairy products do not feature at all on this program so you’re home and dry with this one.

Q: Will this work for vegetarians or meat eaters?

A: The program was designed specifically for vegans but can be adapted for vegetarians and carnivores as well, as long as you’re able to customize your own meal plans based on which foods you eat.  But doing this is easy once you know how to plan and track (which is what we show you in the first module).
